Cecily Zander is assistant professor of History at Texas Woman’s University and Senior Fellow at Southern Methodist University’s Center for Presidential Research. Dr. Zander’s research focus stretches from the Civil War to the American West, covering topics such as Memory, Popular Culture, Leadership, Politics, and Presidents. In 2024, she published The Army under Fire: Antimilitarism in the Civil War Era with the Louisiana State University Press. TeachingMilitaryHistory is grateful for Dr. Zander’s contribution “Gettysburg in Texas: The Challenges and Rewards of Teaching Military history Beyond the Battlefield” for its innovative approach to military history.
