Jennifer L. Weber is an associate professor of history at the United States Air Force Academy. Her primary expertise lies with the Civil War, but she teaches military history more broadly as well. She is currently working on a book about the impact of conscription on the Civil War North.

The basic question behind the course was, "People talk a lot about the military being used for social experiments. Is that assertion true?" My conclusion by the end of the course is that military necessity historically has been a bigger driver, but since the integration of the military under Truman, I think that in many cases social justice has been a factor as well.
