Instructions

Learning new information and reflecting upon it are only the beginning steps, what matters next is how you can communicate that information and use it in conversation—whether it be with a friend, addressing a large audience, or anything in between. The goal of this assignment is for you to use a meme to share a piece of information from the course with a layman audience in a humorous/thought provoking way.

  • Use a meme generator online (such as https://imgflip.com/memegenerator), pick a meme background and use it to convey a statement about the Vietnam War. I encourage you to be creative, but please keep in mind that this is an assignment and that your meme must be classroom appropriate.

  • In 250-350 words, explain your meme. Your explanation should include the historical element to which you chose to refer and its significance. In addition, you need to explain who your target audience is (think about what people would need to know in order to understand your message), as well as why the meme is funny/thought provoking. Don’t skip anything as each element will be evaluated in the rubric.

  • Post both meme and explanation on this discussion board.

Since this assignment requires you to be creative, I understand that it may be a bit more complicated than a traditional paper, which is why you can turn it in at any point during the course—whenever inspiration strikes!

Note that since the goal of this assignment is to engage with a layman audience, in addition to being shared with the class on the discussion board, I will feature the best memes on Twitter.
